



Indian Bean Tree
Overview
- Deciduous Tree growing to 15 m (49ft) by 10 m (32ft) at a fast rate.
- It is in flower in June-July and the seeds ripen from October-December.
- The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs)The plant is self-fertile.
- Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil.
- Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils.
- It cannot grow in the shade.
- It prefers moist soil.
- It can tolerate atmospheric pollution.
Medicinal Uses
A tea made from the bark has been used as an antiseptic, antidote to snake bites, laxative, sedative and vermifuge. Note the roots are poisonous.
