Mixed Canna; Canna indica, Canna x generalis and Canna x orchiodes. 

Canna here in Mixed Colours are medium sized mixed Italian Group Canna cultivars. Foliage is generally green, but often variegated with purple markings and occasionally whole leaves purple, oval shaped, spreading habit; oval stems, coloured green + purple; flower clusters are open, flowers can be orange, pink, salmon, red or pink, sometimes spotted but always beautiful.

A stunning flower, large leaves and grows well in hot climates if watered well. Great for biomass and grows prolifically in our garden.

Cannas are native to Central America and their use in the local diet goes back in time. All parts of the plant are edible. The leaves are used as wrappers like banana leaves, typically to make tamales. Rhizomes are also used in the bakery industry to produce low fat, high-fibre dietary products. Baked rhizomes are employed for making starch dense cakes.

Medicinal Uses

It has been extensively used in a traditional remedy for the treatment of many complaints. The phytochemical analysis of C. indica exhibited that it contained various phytochemicals including alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, anthocyanin pigments, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, tannins, phlobatannins, saponins, carbohydrates, proteins, oils, and many other chemical compounds. The pharmacological studies showed that this plant exerted anthelmintic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, antidiabetic, antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, cytotoxic, hemostatic, hepatoprotective, molluscicidal, and other effects.

Traditionally, rhizomes are used for gonorrhoea, dropsy, febrifuge, dyspepsia, and as an antipyretic through decoction, and roots were utilized against amenorrhoea. The leaves were utilized for malaria, rheumatic pain, and arthritis and possess Haemostatic effects.
